Question: Config Help Needed for Denon AVR-2800 w/ Polk Audio RM 750 5.1 All spkr have sound but no surround modes work?
Current components for my home ‘theater’:
Sony Bravia 52″ LCD which has the following connect via HDMI:
Sony PS3, Cox HD-DVR, Standalone Storage Device, And my HP DV7 laptop
I am connecting the TV to the Receiver via digital IR cable with all those listed COMPONENTS configured to send sound through HDMI yada yada..
In addition I have a Turntable, CD player, and one AUX cable (for ipod) hooked up directly to the Receiver.
So the problem is: I can only use “5ch stereo” for my surround mode, and in fact it is the only one with enough power to sound decent. I get nothing out of Dolby or DTS. So I need to know if i need a new Component or if my wiring is off or what it may be.
I would also like my computer to recognize the 5.1 aspect so I could turn it through there just that much more. Thank you in advance for taking the time to look into this for me.
Regards,
Jason

Keep in mind that you will only have surround sound when playing a DVD or Blu Ray disc and some PS3 video games, the rest are in stereo only. It has to have the decoded material for Dolby or DTS to work and that can be found only on DVD and Blu ray. Hope this will help you out.

Question: How can I make this set-up work with my surround sound?
I’ve got my desktop plugged into my HDTV via an HDMI cable, then the audio output of my TV into my home theater system. Now, when I go to change my speaker setup on my computer to 5.1 surround sound(Which is what my system is), it only displays “Stereo”. So, figuring that was just how it registered, I want to switch it so my computer runs it straight into the home theater system. I only have stereo audio(Red and white) cables that converts to a headphone jack via and adapter.
Basically, what sort of wiring am I going to need to make this work? I’ve got an optical I was going to use to run the audio from my TV to the system rather than the stereo audio cables, but I could either 1) pick up another optical cable, or 2) stick with the red/white cables on my TV and run the optical from my PC into the system.
Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks!

if you use the red-white wires anywhere in your system, you are not going to have 5.1 surround.
do you have fiber optic out port on your pc and your tv? if you have optic port on both, i would recommend using them, optic is great for sound quality. (out from pc, into tv, then out from tv and in to 5.1 system.)
if you do not have fiber optic ports just use hdmi cables, they do the same thing.

Question: How to start my story?
So my story is about a girl who drove drunk on the fourth of july and got in a car crash, resulting in paralysis in her legs. Originally, the beginning of the story was her laying on her bed listening to music and thinking about how the ‘old her’ would have blasted the volume and danced. She also talks about how her whole summer routine was hiding away from the “Judgmental -or worse, pitiful eyes” Of those around her. But I feel the first line’s a bit cliché. It’s like ” Lying motionless on my bed, I stared blankly at my ceiling. Music poured quietly from my small silver stereo.” Well I was wondering what a better way to start of the book would be? I was thinking maybe I could write the car crash scene in like in a paragraph or two. Like her (jaymie) fighting with her best friend (Nicole) about driving home. Then she does and when she crashes. I change scenes to her laying on her bed thinking about the stuff she was thinking about. I don’t want to reveal she’s paralyzed write away. I want people to assume maybe she broke her leg or something less drastic. If I did my second idea would it make sense to seperate the crash scene with the bed scene? for example…
My friend and I were fighting blah blah blah. Vodka in my car. Roads got swervy, melting into each other. Going so fast. Headlights, and stuff. Then I talk more about the scene. Add a lot more details, and really I’m not this bad of a writer. Just giving you the basic idea. So she’s driving, driving driving, crashes .
Then maybe, most likely, adding a second paragraph with some stuff. I’ll figure out the details later. But yeah, so the crash scene ends here.
And picks up in the present with her in her bed. Thinking about how she wants to dance to the music playing but can’t. then I continue my story from here on like I normally would.
Is that the way? Or should I add the stars (***) under the end of the crash scene and before the bed scene? Would I italicize the crash scene like a flashback, or should I keep it like the rest? Sorry for all the questions, but as you can see, starting off isn’t my strong point. Thanks again for your help.
P.S. Turst me, the story is alot more interresting than it sounds.

Put the fight and just before she hits something in the prologue. do your whole My friend and I were fighting blah blah blah. Vodka in my car. Roads got swervy, melting into each other. Going so fast. Headlights, and stuff. and then put something like “I thought I was going crazy, there was a big oak tree in the middle of the road. I lost control of the wheel covered my face- end scene” (not those exact words, just the ideas. The words I just put sucked.)

Question: Surround Sound Setup.?
I just purchased a Electrohome Home Theatre DVD/Surround Sound. Model HTB903E (in case you need a visual of all the cords)
I have a coax cable running to a modulator (tv doesn’t have those red/yellow/white cords) and the modulator running to the video on the dvd (yellow cord)
I have all the speakers/subwoofer running into the DVD player. I have checked that they are black to black/white to white.
I can only get the sound to come out of the “front right” and “front left” output. My guess is that I don’t have the audio settings correct or somthing? Help!
Here are some audio setup options on the DVD menu, that I don’t know what to choose.
Downmix: “LT/RT” or “Stereo” or “Off” The manual says off the payer will output the 5.1ch audio signals (now the setups of the centre speaker and the rear speaker are active) [this is the option i chose]
SPDIF Setup
SPDIF OFF

The only thing i have hooked up is the dvd player. (just an old tv in my bedroom, don’t use it enough to be bothered hooking the satellite into it) I am not able to find the setup for surround on my dvd.
The one that i have in right now (sex in the city season 4) says on the back Dolby Surround…

you didn’t say which source you’re trying. if you’re watching dvd and the sound only comes out of the front speakers, check the menu of the disc. there should be an audio setting there for 5.1.
i checked the manual of your dvd and it doesn’t look like it has a feature like Dolby Pro Logic II that would matrix a stereo sound to the surround speakers and sub woofer. So if you’re listening to a cd or the tuner, then the sound would only be on the front speakers. also, if you have a cable box or a satelite receiver (you didn’t say if you have one connected) and it’s connected using a red and white cable, the sound would also be only on the front speakers.
the SPDIF setup is for outputting digital audio to another receiver. you don’t need to set this if you don’t have a receiver connected using either digital coax or optical cable.
– when you load the disc and see and menu of movie don’t press play yet. instead look for audio settings that you can adjust. normally, dvd’s would have an option for dts or dolby. try choosing dolby digital 5.1. far as i can remember from your player’s manual, no additional setting is needed.

This is because stock speakers are amplified and you need adapter to turn off for them to work. otherwise they will blow.

Make sure you don’t have the wire backwards, then start by replacing the wire you could have burned it, then move to the amplifier trying moving that speaker do a different place on the amp if it starts working then you gotta bad channel on the amp.

did you turn the volume on the Zune up past headphone level? it’ll take louder output to be heard through the stereo speakers. other than that, it should play with no problem.

Question: No digital audio output from RCA home theatre system – advice anyone?
I am running a coaxial digital cable from my DVD player into a RCA RT2280 home theatre digital input. When I set the DVD input setting to “coaxial” on the RCA, the display shows dolby digital with all channels lit up, but outputs no sound. If I swtich it over to “analog” I can get the stereo sound output. I have also tried with an optical cable with the same result. Stereo “analog” works for all sources, so I know the speakers are fine. Since the receiver recognizes when it is receiving digitial sound, I know the DVD player’s output jack is working. What could be causing the receiver not to output sound in digital mode?
Other devices when hooked up, such as the cable box, also show that it detects the dolby feed. It still does not output audio with those devices either.

First, if there is a button on the remote to select Dolby Digital, try that. Normally the RCA receiver should automatically detect DD, and the fact that the display shows it indicates that is probably happening. I suspect there is a fault somewhere.
The fault could be in either the DVD player or the RCA. It is possible for the A/V receiver to detect DD and display it, but not be able do decode it because of some defect. If you can get a hold of any other digital audio source (cable box, satellite receiver or other DVD player), then you can isolate the problem.
