Question: Config Help Needed for Denon AVR-2800 w/ Polk Audio RM 750 5.1 All spkr have sound but no surround modes work?
Current components for my home ‘theater’:
Sony Bravia 52″ LCD which has the following connect via HDMI:
Sony PS3, Cox HD-DVR, Standalone Storage Device, And my HP DV7 laptop
I am connecting the TV to the Receiver via digital IR cable with all those listed COMPONENTS configured to send sound through HDMI yada yada..
In addition I have a Turntable, CD player, and one AUX cable (for ipod) hooked up directly to the Receiver.
So the problem is: I can only use “5ch stereo” for my surround mode, and in fact it is the only one with enough power to sound decent. I get nothing out of Dolby or DTS. So I need to know if i need a new Component or if my wiring is off or what it may be.
I would also like my computer to recognize the 5.1 aspect so I could turn it through there just that much more. Thank you in advance for taking the time to look into this for me.
Regards,
Jason

Keep in mind that you will only have surround sound when playing a DVD or Blu Ray disc and some PS3 video games, the rest are in stereo only. It has to have the decoded material for Dolby or DTS to work and that can be found only on DVD and Blu ray. Hope this will help you out.
Question: The girl i like asked me out… I need HELP plz >. We're good friends (both seniors in high school); i know i like her in a deeper way, and i'm pretty sure she feels at least somewhat the same way. She called me up earlier and told me she got tickets that her boss couldn't use, so she wanted to know if i would go with her (don't need to tell you MY response ^_^). This is our first "singles" date, and i really don't know what to do i think V_V. First off, i was already planning on asking her out at prom in like 2 - 3 weeks, so i don't REALLY wanna do it during this, but i want it to seem pretty much like a date. I'm picking her up, we're going to dinner, heading to theater, and i'm driving her home. Would it be too much to bring like a bouquet of roses when i pick her up? (she likes the romantic stuff like that, but i don't know if it's too soon). Also, i don't know what would really be appropriate to wear. I need "theater" appropriate, but also something that is casual, like a date. I was thinking: Dress shoes, black dress pants, blue button-down (but it's like a designer one, w/ display along shoulders of back, and over right chest area). She said no tie, so don't need to worry bout that, but should i do gold dress pants with my tan suit jacket? Or any other recommendations? Lastly, any tips on actual dating i guess, with just the two of us? I've been to broadway shows w/ family, and i've been on a double date with her, but not alone like this... kinda nervous lol. So yeah, any advise, do's and don'ts, etc.? (On a Side Note: Does this situation really happen, when a girl gets tickets to a show because boss couldn't use them? or is that just their way of asking a guy out?) THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP = ') Also, her parents like me, i've met both, her dad wants to have me over for dinner sometime as well = ). I don't think i need to really meet them to have a good impression, we've done that i think. Answer: Answer by skeet skeet
I’m REALLY sorry this is so long but please bear with me >.
Sorry, i didn't mean ask her TOO prom, i meant we're GOING to prom together, and i plan on asking her out "officially" there, like during dance or at after party.
Some people have been noting that they wouldn't go that fancy for movies. This is NOT movies, this is "THEATRE" like a broadway show type of thing, where somewhat nice clothes is a MANDATORY. I just want it to be comfortable though for me and her, seem like it's still a date.
well first off you could just wear a nice pair of cakky pants( i dont know how to spell it) and a nice pollo shirt.
dont be nervous just stay calm when you get nervous you mess stuff up. Do bring her a single rose not a bouqet. dont complement her to much you can say she looks really good when you first see her.
and it could be either idk where she works so she might of bought them and she wanted to go on a date with you and you just werent asking
Question: Need help with surprise. Only serious people please.?
Ok so Im doing a surprise home getaway for hubby. Doing a “theatre” in one room and doing italian dinner, “hotel” in place of the bedroom. Anyways I have everything that I need. But Im stuck with the theatre room. I wanted to make it look like an actual theatre. Was thinking of getting some black fabric to cover the walls, do you think black tull will make it look romantic and elegant or should I use just use some black fabric? Or should I do a red color???
Its gonna be a faux theatre room. I wanna make this seem like its a getaway without leaving the house….

Super great idea!
I think tulle might work but since it is sheer, you might need triple the fabric to cover. Maybe something thicker or tulle over jersey or cotton. Red would be nice [and romantic] but it would need to be that certain red and I bet that is hard to find. Plus he might not get that if he is like many men I know (no offense guys).
Again, snaps for the great idea. Have fun!

Blu-ray looks no different than DVD anyhows. The human eye can only see 9.1 MP or something like that (they make cameras with higher MPs for editing btw).

First off you have to consider how much money you want to spend. Also this will depend on the size of the room you have. What is the main reason for the tv, watching movies and tv or for gaming. The size of the screen should be 3 times the distance of the viewing area. Go online to Home Theater Magazine and read the reviews on tvs along with the pro and con of Plasma and LCD/LED. Along with home theater in a box or separate receiver and speaker system. You will notice that Panasonic Plasma tv is recommended in each price category of entry level to the high end. While other brands does not have one in each of the price category, brands like Samsung, Sony, Toshiba and LG. Other brands did not even make the list. Home theater in a box comes with a DVD or Blu Ray along with a receiver and speakers (the only thing is when one item fails the whole thing needs to be replace and you can not upgrade. If you read yahoo questions, you will notice that 95% of tv problems come from LCD/LED and 95% of those are off brands. I recommend you go to a retail store and bring your own source of material (dvd/blu ray disc movies and cd) to demo each item you might be interested in. For tvs look at the picture from an angle and see how much picture quality you loose. For home theater listen to the music at a high volume and listen for clarity of the sound, if you start to get a head ache means you are not getting a good clear sound. Hope this will help you out.
Question: I’m new to the whole “home theater” scene. Help please?
You could definitely consider me as new to the whole home theater scene, but the idea of getting something like this for my family is interesting me more and more by the day.
I went over to my friends house the other day to visit him and he showed me his home theater system. It was very loud, had tons of bass coming from the subwoofer, and also had a very crisp, clear sound. I asked him how much his system ran for so that I could look for something similar and he said he mixed and matched, but it would run somewhere around the $ 1300 mark online.
Whenever I look online, I see very highly rated home theater (5.1) systems for around $ 200 – $ 300. Are these even worth it? Is something of this price range going to give me great sound? Will there be a good amount of bass coming from the sub? And what the hell does a receiver do anyways?
I’m sorry I’m still a home theater virgin!

Sorry, equipment in that price range is junk designed to lure in virgins like you. Forget browsing online; they’re just trying to sell. Go to your local hi-fi store and see what good equipment looks and sounds like. Pick up a few home theater magazines and read some reviews. In other words, see how deep the water is before you jump into the pool.
Question: From Zune to my stereo. Need help?
I bought 3.5mm Audio Cable to connect to my stereo/radio at home. Both ends seem to fit in both the Zune & stereo perfectly.. but it’s not playing. I pressed “AUX” on my stereo & “PLAY” on my Zune… didn’t do anything:(
Can somebody help/give advice?
Answer:
Answer by Daniel
did you turn the volume on the Zune up past headphone level? it’ll take louder output to be heard through the stereo speakers. other than that, it should play with no problem.
